MORE than £900 has been raised for charity by members of The parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

A sponsored walk, organised by the parish's newly formed Aid to the Church in Need society, took place on July 26 with more than 20 parishioners and friends braving the inclement weather to walk 5k from the church to Arrow Valley Lake.

The money raised will go toward persecuted Christians around the world.

A spokesman from the society said it was success and that they hoped the walk would become an annual event.

"Even though it was such a wet morning, I think it's true to say that it did not dampen our spirits at all," she said.

"In fact, it added a little sacrificial element which we could offer up for our suffering brothers and sisters; not much at all in comparison with their sacrifices of course."
