REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley and leader of Redditch Council Bill Hartnett have paid tribute to service personnel as part of Armed Forces Day.

Hundreds turned out, including town mayor Pattie Hill, to celebrate our country's servicemen and women during the event, held on Saturday.

Redditch Royal British Legion organised a parade leading up to the town centre war memorial, outside St Stephen’s Church, where a short service was held.

Leader of Redditch Council Bill Hartnett said: "I would like to say what a wonderful day we had in Redditch town centre on a glorious Saturday morning for Armed Forces Day.

"We saw the banners, the marching band, and the services on parade. The general public were great and demonstrated their support with a great turnout in large numbers.

"I would like to thank the Royal British Legion for arranging the day and for all the good work they do throughout the year."

He added: "I was proud to be part of the day to show support for our armed services, l am looking forward to Remembrance Sunday."

MP Mrs Lumley said: "It was great to be at the Armed Forces Day service with the mayor and the 37th Signal Regiment - I'm very proud of them."
