PEOPLE in Alcester and the surrounding district are invited to attend a special Alcester Refugee Fund meeting with MP Nadhim Zahawi.

The project aims to connect local people to youngsters who have fled their homes due to unrest in regions such as the Middle East.

Mr Zahawi was born in Baghdad to Kurdish parents before his family fled to the UK during Saddam Hussein's rise to power.

He will deliver a speech about what people can do to help refugees.

The group was founded by Frank Wood and runs through partnership with the Christian charity Open Doors UK.

A representative from Open Doors, an international ministry supporting persecuted Christians and churches, will also give a talk and at the end a question and answer session will be held.

So far, the new project has raised between £1,500 and £2,000 but Mr Wood hopes to eventually make around £50,000.

The meeting is being held on Friday, June 3 at 7.30pm.
