A FUNDRAISING event held in Studley has raised £3,200 to help those affected by the major earthquake in Nepal which killed over 8,000 people.

More than 120 people attended the charity event which was organised by The Mount Everest Restaurant in Alcester Road.

The Nepalese restaurant, is ran by brothers Pardep and Bishnu Paudel and their wives Manisha and Pardep from Baglung Bazar in Nepal.

The quartet sold meal and raffle tickets to the special evening held on Sunday, May 17 to raise vital funds for those devastated by the earthquake.

The Pardep family have thanked everyone came and supported the event stating the local community had been amazing by donating whatever they could to the cause.

Of the money raised, £500 was donated to Gumbo Tamang, a Nepali dad living in Redditch, who is aiming to raise enough money to rebuild his village, Thulo Bharku, in the Langtang National Park in Rasuwa district to the north west of Kathmandu, near the Tibetan border.

The rest of the funds will go directly to the neediest areas of Nepal.

Mr Tamang, a 29-year-old father of one works as a catering assistant at the Alexandra Hospital.

His village, where his parents and sister-in-law still live, comprised 150 homes and was hit by the first earthquake.

Mr Tamang hopes to return to the village as soon as he can but at present he is fundraising to help rebuild it.
