MORE than 1,500 participants descended on Upper Spernall Farm near Alcester to take part in a live action role-playing battle.

The event was organised by Profound Decisions, an organisation which specialises in creating high quality player-led events.

During live action event players' act out their character’s actions and interact with each other in role.

All players received a health and safety briefing and trained staff were on site to deal with any medical issues.

Throughout the battle on Easter Monday, local residents were able to contact the organisers if there were any issues of immediacy.

Warwickshire County Councillor Mike Gittus said: “Obviously, I was very concerned at the start as to the degree of impact this scale of event would have on the local residents. Noise and highway issues were high on my list of concerns.

“The organisers of the event were keen to show off the participants, encouraging them to demonstrate that they were all sensible and law abiding enthusiasts.

“I attended both the residents visit on Saturday and the Monday battle. The participants were enthusiastic and the organisers well structured.

“I was pleased to see that many of the attendees were family groups and that the game players were courteous and encouraging to everyone involved.

“The residents found the site visit particularly interesting and informative. It allayed many of their concerns.”

Before the event, organisers posted to Facebook to warn participants to curb their speed whilst diving around Great Alne and other nearby villages.

Matt Pennington, part of the management team at Profound Decisions, said: “The event was a great success, although it was very muddy.

"The participants heartily enjoyed themselves and the feedback from local residents is that they found the event was everything we promised it would be.

“Although live roleplaying is not a spectator event - we were happy to welcome local residents and show them around.

“Those who came commented how pleasant the attendees were and several mentioned how well organised the event was.”

The organisation is now looking for a new location, preferably with woodlands, for their battles in 2016 and onwards.
