AN extra seat will be available in the West ward of Redditch in the elections in May.

Following the resignation of Independent Councillor Michael Braley this seat will become a part of the borough elections.

The councillor, known for being outspoken and not afraid to say what is on his mind, recently formed a new political group calling themselves the Redditch Democratic Alliance, which had promised to put the views of electors before party politics.

He formed the group with like-minded UKIP Councillor Paul Swansborough.

Councillor Swansborough, who represents Winyates, said: "I would like to personally thank Michael for all his support and advice he has given me in recent months while being a member of the Redditch Democratic Alliance.

"Over the years Michael has never been afraid to speak his mind on some very important issues. Albeit sometimes unpopular, I believe this is key to having a healthy democratic debate in Redditch."

He added: "Michael will be sadly missed by all and I wish him the very best for the future."

The Redditch Democratic Alliance has now been dissolved.

A third of Redditch Borough Councillors are up for election on May 7 as there are no elections in Central and Lodge Park wards this year.

The General Parliamentary election will take place in all areas.

The count for the borough Council elections will take place on Friday May 8.
