IT may be cold outside, but staff at a building society did their best to warm things up for shoppers by hosting a charity cake and coffee day.

The West Brom on Evesham Walk held a Winter Warmer fundraising event, raising vital cash for the Alzheimer's Society.

It helped raise £3,200 for the charity, which helps support people in the region affected by dementia.

Redditch branch manager David Peckham said: “We had real fun preparing for the event and putting on a tempting spread for our customers who gave so generously throughout the day.

"It was also an opportunity to spread awareness about dementia, which can be particularly challenging for families to cope with at this time of year, and the support channels available to them.”

Ray Nash, from Alzheimer's Society, said: “We are extremely grateful to the West Brom and their customers for coming together to raise money to support our fight against dementia.

"More than 73,000 people in the West Midlands are affected by dementia and every pound donated helps us provide vital support to them and their carers.”
