RESIDENTS are invited to share their weight-loss ideas as part of Redditch Council review into obesity levels in the borough.

The council's overview and scrutiny committee has launched the review to investigate the causes of obesity and the extent to which it has an impact on the local community.

It will focus on actions that can be taken to help people to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the review the project group is keen to hear from residents about action that could be taken by public sector organisations to help people to lose weight.

This could include highlighting activities that may have helped residents to lose weight, outlining any activities that may not be helpful and identifying the barriers that may be preventing weight loss.

Chair of the group, Councillor Jane Potter, said "We know that it is a very personal problem which causes considerable distress and discomfort to many people and we would like to find ways to help those who want to lose weight and to improve their health."

This subject is being reviewed as an overview and scrutiny exercise. Councillors involved in scrutiny do not have any decision making powers but, based on the evidence they gather, they can make recommendations to local decision makers. The review is due to be completed in March 2015.

Anyone who would like to submit information for the consideration of the councillors can email scrutiny@redditchbc.gov.uk or call 01527 64252 ext 3268.

Alternatively, if people would like to submit information by post they can please contact Democratic Services, Redditch Town Hall, Walter Stranz Square, Redditch, Worcestershire B98 8AH.
