MEN from across Redditch are being called upon to take part in the annual Heel Walk against Domestic Abuse this month.

On Friday, November 28, male staff from organisations across Worcestershire will gather in Redditch, donning their high heels in support of the White Ribbon Campaign and the 16 Days of Action against domestic abuse.

Now male residents are being invited to join in with the one mile walk around the town centre, including the Kingfisher, to publicly show their opposition to domestic abuse, sexual violence and harassment targeted against women.

The walk will begin with a pre-brief from 1pm in the town hall council chamber before officially starting at 2pm.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of the council, said: "I am proud to say that I am participating in the Heel Walk again this year and would encourage as many men as possible to get involved.

"It requires a lot of courage to put on a pair of ladies shoes and be seen wearing them, but it’s nothing compared to the courage needed by victims of domestic abuse to come forward for help. Taking part in the walk really puts things into perspective and it is one small way of publicly showing support to all victims and survivors of abuse."

As with previous years, this particular event is specifically aimed at male participation. However, throughout the 16 Days of Action, there are a number of other events planned across the county to oppose all forms of domestic abuse, irrespective of gender.

Anyone who would like to participate can register by e-mail to saferredditch@redditchbc.gov.uk marked FAO: Alasdair Baker, Community Safety Project Officer.
