PARENTS and carers with children eligible to start reception, middle or high school next September are invited to a drop-in session to help them apply online.

The county council's 'Computabus' will be at the Willow Trees Children Centre in Redditch on Friday, October 17 from 8.45am to 10am.

Staff will be on hand to help parents use the computers, access the internet and complete the application process.

The session is being offered in partnership with the Early Help provider for Redditch and Bromsgrove; Redditch Council.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children and families, said: "This session is particularly useful for parents who don't have access to the internet or a computer. Applying online is quick and easy to do.

"The school admissions website offers guidance on how to make a school application and includes the current school admissions and transfers information for parents book.

"Applying online puts parents in control of their application. It's not only quicker but you can log on at any time to suit you, 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Parents and carers with children born between September 1 2010 and August 2011 need to apply for a reception school place if they want their child to start school in September 2015 as they cannot automatically start school in Worcestershire without this application process taking place.

Applications are now open and close on January 15, 2015 for reception and middle school admissions and on October 31 2014 for high schools.

Parents can register online at worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions. People who do not have access to a computer can contact the Worcestershire Hub on 01905 822 700, who will perform the online process on their behalf and send a hard copy of the completed form.
