BRITAIN'S most popular piece of classical music will star during a summer concert.

Vaughan Williams’ quintessentially English piece the Lark Ascending, which topped a Classic FM Hall of Fame poll earlier this year, will feature in Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra's programme on Saturday, July 5.

The orchestra, which was founded more thanr 100 years ago with the help of Edward Elgar, is performing a summer serenade in St Martin’s Church in Worcester, during which many of the regular players perform as soloists.

Conductor Keith Slade said: “This concert gives many of the orchestra's regular members a chance to shine, and contains some really popular works which I know the audience will love.”

Members of the orchestra's wind section will step up to perform the Dvorak Wind Serenade, before the concert reaches its conclusion with a performance of Finnish composer Sibelius’ epic third Symphony.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 for adults, concessions £8, and £5 for students and children.
