STAFF at Arrow Vale RSA Academy are celebrating after not only receiving an Outstanding inspection by Ofsted, but also for being the first high school in Redditch to make the grade.

The school was ranked outstanding in the areas of: achievements of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils, and leadership and management.

The report stated that students of all abilities make outstanding progress and say how much they value the high quality teaching they receive.

It said behaviour in lessons is exemplary and relationships between teachers and their students are warm and supportive.

It also mentioned that the sixth form is good and rapidly improving. Students are now making good progress because they are well prepared for their advanced studies through the provision of appropriate courses in the main academy.

Inspectors observed 31 lessons and made a number of further short visits to lessons.

Meetings were also held with students, parents, governors, a representative from the academy sponsor and staff.

Principal Guy Shears, who was called "inspirational" in the report, said: "I’m incredibly proud of the students and staff of Arrow Vale who work tirelessly to ensure that everyone is valued and students excel.

"To be the first ever high school in Redditch to be graded Outstanding is testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone within the Arrow Vale community.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley, who recently visited the school, said: “Big congratulations to pupils, staff, parents and the local community – they all deserve this recognition of their efforts.

"I am so proud of Guy Shears and his team. To have Arrow Vale named the first outstanding high school in Redditch is a massive achievement and one which I hope other schools in the town will work to replicate.”

Meanwhile, the Advertiser can reveal that HRH The Princess Royal will be formally opening RSA Academy Arrow Vale on July 14.
