PEOPLE in Redditch will now be able to access digital information using the latest touch-screen technology.

A new electronic information unit along Church Green West in the town centre was launched by Worcestershire County Council's Choose how you move on June 3, among crowds who turned up to support the Tour Series bike race.

The unit, which represents a significant investment by the grant-funded sustainable travel choice programme, is a double-sided totem display providing scheduled bus timetable information, travel information, websites and the weather. The costs also include provision for ongoing maintenance.

The council's sustainable schemes section worked closely with manufacturers RSL Kiosks, to ensure all necessary requirements were implemented and the unit provided value for money.

Jon Fraser, highways manager for Worcestershire County Council, said: "Choose how you move is doing some great work. This is a fine example of clever, technology which fits with the long term strategy to provide better information to the residents of Redditch."

Mohammed Riaz, account manager for RSL Kiosks, said: "We're delighted to have been invited to work with Worcestershire County Council on this important project."

The unit sports Choose how you move livery and is fitted with innovative counter-sabotage technology.
