REDDITCH was filled with the sound of music on Saturday, May 17 as the town’s exciting new bandstand programme was launched.

Local Voices – a celebration of choirs, young and old from across the Redditch area, saw performances from local singers and musicians.

Each month the bandstand will host different celebrations of music sourced from throughout the borough, celebrating the array of talent which the town boasts.

Redditch Council’s arts and events manager Jonathan Cochrane said: “We held events at the bandstand last year and they proved very popular.

“We have since revamped the area and it really is the perfect venue for people to bring a chair and a picnic and enjoy the wealth of diverse talent which we have in Redditch – and all for free.

“If Saturday’s success is anything to go by, the town is in for a tuneful treat this summer as the programme is bigger and better than ever.”

The most recent event saw Gospel Choir, Bridge Youth Choir, Primrose Choir, Music in Motion, a  musical performance from Rauf Shah a Sitar Player and local singer and guitar duo Georgie and Prok entertaining the crowds.

Next month, on June 14 from noon until 4pm, brass bands will take to the stage in celebration of National Children’s Day. The day will also see children’s performances and activities and a gig by the Rock Choir
