PM David Cameron has wished everybody in Redditch "a very happy 50th anniversary".

The Prime Minster was responding to a question by Redditch MP Karen Lumley as part of Prime Minister’s Questions.

Mrs Lumley asked if, in the week of her own 50th birthday and the month of Redditch’s 50th anniversary as a new town, the Prime Minister would join her in congratulating Ken Williams, the head of the Kingfisher Centre, for helping her to organise the anniversary, as well as an upcoming apprenticeship fair.

Responding, the Prime Minister wished the MP a very happy 50th birthday, as well as residents, and said she was right to be pushing apprenticeship fairs and job fairs.

He said: "We are aiming for two million apprenticeships in this Parliament and we have 1.6 million already trained. That is one of the most important things we can do to provide a strong and secure future for our country."

Speaking afterwards Mrs Lumley said: “I was pleased that he is supportive of the apprenticeship fair that I have planned for later in the year at the Kingfisher Centre. Of course, an extra special treat for me personally was being wished a happy birthday by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons.”
