A REDDITCH pupil got to grace the hallowed turf at Twickenham before the RBS 6 Nations England v Wales match, wearing his school’s new rugby shirt as he sang the National Anthem.

Will Grimley from RSA Academy Arrow Vale joined England Rugby’s official anthem singer, soprano Laura Wright, to sing the National Anthem in front of a sell-out crowd of 82,000 fans.

The 16-year-old was one of a group of students revealing the unique rugby shirts they’d designed as part of a Canterbury Kit Design workshop last year.

The workshops were part of All Schools, England Rugby’s programme to get more secondary state schools playing rugby, and of which Canterbury – the official kit supplier to England Rugby - is official partner.

During the workshops the pupils got to learn about the core values of the game and the importance of the rugby shirt before putting their thoughts and designs to paper.

The final designs were signed off by the school before Canterbury took them away to prepare the students’ artwork for production.

Canterbury will be providing each school with their bespoke shirts for their teams to play competitive rugby in.

Will is vice-captain of the year 11 team and also plays for Redditch RFC.

He was chosen to represent his school due to his continued commitment to the school’s rugby programme, both as a player and as an official at tournaments for younger teams.
