It's all app-enning at RSA Academies Trust
3:44pm Friday 13th December 2013 in Local
STUDENTS of the RSA Academies Trust, which RSA Academy Arrow Vale, Ipsley CE RSA Academy, RSA Whitley and RSA Tipton, designed, created and sold four apps in just 48 hours.
In partnership with Launch48, an entrepreneurial start-up company in web and mobile products, students from the academies worked tirelessly over one weekend to start their own business and are now selling their apps in the Google Play Store.
A month ago, students from the academies began pitching their ideas to their peers in a Dragons Den style presentation.
The successful students then created teams to support them in their business start-up. After two more rounds of intense presentations, Launch48 announced the winners.
Launch 48 are experienced and successful coders, designers and entrepreneurs who bring together people of all skill sets and experiences to create ideas, build products and launch their own business start-up.
The Launch48 format was adapted to help teenage technology entrepreneurs at the academies gain an insight into the skill and dedication needed to succeed in the entrepreneurial economy. The RSA students have had unique access to the expertise of industry leaders through Launch48 and their sponsors Blackberry, Rackspace, Pearson, Twilio & Sendgrid.
On December 7 and 8, students began coding their app and websites, developing their revenue streams and researching their market before launching their product online and initiating their marketing campaign with experts.
The youngest entrepreneurs from Ipsley were just 10 years old, and have created a mental maths challenge game called Maths Mayhem; Arrow Vale created a classic app style game called Teacher Torment whilst an inspired collaboration between students at RSA Arrow Vale Academy and RSA Tipton developed a collaborative social media app called Snap It.
Students unveiled their new business to proud parents at the end of the 48 hour marathon in the recently refurbished Rhett Theatre at the RSA Academy Arrow Vale.
