Take part in major election polling district review in Redditch
7:20am Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Local
RESIDENTS are being invited to take part in a major review that could result in changes to election polling districts and places in Redditch borough.
The Polling Places Review 2013 is publicly scrutinising the locations of Redditch’s polling districts and stations, along with issues of accessibility and more.
Full details of the borough’s existing electoral arrangements have been made available for inspection at Redditch Town Hall, Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm, for the duration of the review.
Redditch Council is now welcoming comments and suggested alternatives in writing from all interested parties until 5pm on Friday, October 25.
Returning Officer Sue Hanley said: “While mini-reviews of polling stations and electoral arrangements take place every time there is an election, this full review provides the opportunity for an in-depth look at whether our arrangements are the best that can be provided for local electors, and make changes where we can.
“If residents do want to suggest changes to polling stations, we would ask that they suggest alternatives. People may well know of other suitable venues we’re not yet aware of.”
Comments to the review should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or to The Polling Districts and Polling Stations Review, c/o Electoral Services Manager, Town Hall, Walter Stranz Square, Redditch B98 8AH.
Draft recommendations from the review will be published in early November. Details of all representations received, including those of Redditch’s Returning Officer, will also be made available for inspection.
It is a statutory requirement of polling authorities to carry out this kind of in-depth review every five years.
