TWO RSA Arrow Vale students have been awarded prestigious bursaries to support them through university.
Simon Lam was thrilled to received his place studying natural sciences at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge after achieving two A*s and two As and and this was enhanced when he found out that he had been awarded the OCR Bursary.
A total of 11 students nationally are selected for the fund which is awarded by the exam board OCR.
On September 20, Simon and his parents were accompanied by principal Guy Shears, and Ian Wright, from the academy to the head office of OCR where the chief executive hosted an awards ceremony for the successful students.
Mr Wright said that Simon’s discipline, organisation and commitment were a great credit to him and he fully deserved the award.
Meanwhile, James Williams has been awarded a scholarship from Lloyds TSB Bank.
James, who achieved A*, A, and B, will be studying history at the University of Birmingham, and undertook a lengthy application process involving an assessment in London which required analysis of case studies, panel interviews and maths tests.
Amongst other things, the scholarship will provide James with a mentor from the banking industry and internships during his summer holidays. The scholarship will provide him with a fantastic grounding in the banking industry.
James was grateful to his teachers for recommending the scheme to him, and for the quality of advice and guidance given during his five years at RSA Arrow Vale.
Principal Mr Shears said: “Following a record number of our students achieving A* and A grades at A-Level, these awards are national recognition of the support given to gifted students at the academy, their amazing achievements and demonstrates the high quality provision offered.”
