Man pleads guilty to sexual assault on woman sharing his bed

A REDDITCH man has been given a suspended sentence after he admitted sexually assaulting a woman who was sharing his bed.
Jake Hands, aged 21, of Astley Close, Redditch, had invited the younger woman to stay in his studio flat because she had been having problems in a relationship with another man, Worcester Crown Court was told.
There was only one bed which they had been sharing, Rebecca Wade, prosecuting, told the court.
On the morning of October 7, last year, while she was sleeping, she felt her leggings and pants had been taken down and Hands was behind her with his trousers around his ankles. She told him to get away and called the police.
Hands denied a charge of attempted rape which was dropped at the start of a trial when he pleaded guilty to an alternative sexual assault charge.
Richard Davenport, defending, said it was an unusual case because they had been sharing the bed for a week, though without any sexual relationship.
Hands, he said, had been brought up by his mother alone and had difficulty forming relationships.
Judge Toby Hooper gave him a 14 month jail sentence suspended for two years with 12 months supervision. He was also ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work. He was also given a sexual offences prevention order until further notice requiring him to tell the supervision manager if he starts a relationship with a woman.
