Get the feel-good factor at the Abbey Stadium
7:20am Monday 9th September 2013 in Local
REDDITCH residents are invited to get the feel-good factor as the Abbey Stadium Leisure Centre marks World Mental Health Day
Staff at the centre have teamed up with the town’s Mental Health Action Group (MHAG) to showcase the activities on offer to help lift people’s mood and make them feel good.
The leisure centre already offers an activity referral scheme and the Redditch Dementia Group also meets there for light exercise to boost members’ well-being.
Operations manager Scott Brinkworth said: “Sometimes after a hard day at work, all you want to do is go home, sit on the sofa and watch TV.
“But if you can make the extra effort and try some physical activity, it will raise your natural endorphins and make you feel good.”
World Mental Health Day is on October 10 and there will lots of activities throughout the town including a quiz and a pop-up shop in the Kingfisher Centre.
Visitors to the Abbey on Saturday, October 12, from 11am until 3pm, can take part in a host of activities including riding scooters, exercise classes and trying out the gym – as well as taking a turn to keep a spin bike going for 12 hours.
Mr Brinkworth added: “Going to the gym is not just losing weight. You can meet people, raise your fitness and try new things which could turn out to be more fun than sitting on the sofa.
“This is a great opportunity to share with all residents about the activities we provide and we welcome old and new customers on the day.”
The programme for the day will be published on the council’s website later this month.
