Free, guided cycle rides to start in Redditch
1:30pm Wednesday 7th August 2013 in Local
PEOPLE can explore the hidden nooks of Redditch with new free, guided leisure bike rides starting next week.
From Saturday, August 10, the family-friendly rides will meet at the Arrow Valley Visitor Centre at 9.30am for 10am starts on the second Saturday of each month, returning in time for lunch.
The new rides are a Sustrans initiative, supported by Redditch Council, and will be led by a local group of volunteer rangers who help maintain cycle routes and organise rides to encourage cycling in Redditch.
Councillor Phil Mould, who is responsible for leisure, said: “I’m happy to welcome this latest activity to Redditch’s public open spaces. Volunteer ride leaders from Sustrans have designed the rides to be suitable for all, a gentle cycle round the cycle paths and round some of the greenest nooks.
“Sustrans are a national charity working to give people access to healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys as well as improving living spaces and we’re pleased to be working in partnership with them.”
The council has a limited number of bikes available to loan for use on the rides. To register in advance, email email@example.com, or alternatively details can be taken on the day to be passed on to council officers.
All abilities and ages are welcome at the rides, which will go at the pace of the slowest rider. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
