IT has been confirmed that the Halfords Tour Series will be coming back to Redditch.

And planning has already begun for the action-packed day of professional cycling.

The event pits Britain’s leading professional teams against each other, over the course of one-hour town and city centre races.

Last year’s race around the town, which saw more than £100,000 injected into the local economy, was hailed as a major success by organisers and town councillors and MPs.

Local businesses benefited from the 10,000 visitors attracted to the event, of whom two-thirds travelled in to the area from the wider West Midlands.

Not only that but people were able to witness some of the world's top cyclists going head-to-head around the town centre course.

Plans are now underway to repeat last year’s event but also improve and build upon its achievements.

The Advertiser reported last year how The Halfords Tour Series and Choose How You Move, a £2.8 million county council scheme to get people out of their cars, successfully negotiated a three-year deal to host the event in Redditch.
