CHOOSE how you move – the supporters of sustainable travel, have announced their plans for Phase 2 of bus stop enhancement works in south Redditch.

Phase 1, undertaken in late 2012, has seen improvements to bus stop facilities at selected stops on Coldfield Drive, Castleditch Lane, Pheasant Lane and Grangers Lane.

These include the installation of new or replacement bus shelters incorporating bespoke artwork panels; the installation of specially designed kerbs to improve accessibility at stops; the provision of new or improved hard standings and pedestrian crossing points and improved information facilities.

Phase 2, scheduled to begin in mid-February and conclude at the end of March, will see enhancements to selected stops on Evesham Road, Walkwood Road and Swinburne Road. Spring 2013 will see further works on routes 55 and 56 before the scheme targets improvements along routes 51, 57 and 58.

Councillor John Smith OBE, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Working with our partners Redditch Council and the bus operators, we believe the enhancements to bus stop facilities as part of the Choose how you move project will improve the experience of existing bus users and give confidence to new users of the bus network in the town."

As part of the campaign to improve the way people travel in Redditch, changes to infrastructure form an important part of Choose how you move's remit. By using modes of travel that are more sustainable, Redditch people can lessen the impact on the environment, reduce personal expenditure and benefit from increased fitness by walking and cycling for shorter journeys.

The public will be notified of the exact dates of these improvements as soon as possible. Choose how you move has apologised in advance for disruption, which will be kept to a minimum.
