THANKS to kind-hearted shoppers and staff at Redditch B&Q store, a group of hard working scouts and leaders are on their way to their fundraising total for a special trip to County Down, Northern Ireland later this year.

Armed with collection buckets, the group was delighted to raise over £360 towards their goal of £2,800 to help cover travel and insurance for the planned trip to Nijam 2013 in August.

An international event, Nijam 2013 unites more than 1,000 scouts from all over the world in a programme of activities with the chance to meet and make friends with others like minded young people from different countries.

The trip to B&Q forms part of a series of planned fundraising activities over the coming months to raise money for the trip. As a welcome boost, current fundraising efforts were matched pound for pound by local businessman Gary Smith of Chlorine Dioxide Solutions.

Alison Calcutt, leader of 11th Redditch Eagle and Kestrel Scouts, who meet weekly in Headless Cross said: “This trip is a once in a lifetime experience for the 18 young members and will help improve social and confidence skills and build important teamwork abilities that will help these young members at school and in future employment.’

“Thanks to the generosity of staff and customers of B&Q and to Gary at Chloride Dioxide Solutions, we are a little bit closer to achieving our target and making the trip. I am overwhelmed with their generosity and cannot thank them enough on behalf of the group.”
