Black and white TV still being watched in Redditch
11:50am Saturday 12th January 2013 in Local
BLACK and white television is still being watched in Bromsgrove and Redditch, the TV Licensing authority has revealed.
After nearly 46 years of colour television, 58 monochrome licenses are still in use in Worcestershire, including in Redditch and Bromsgrove.
The figures released show more than 13,000 households nationally still watch television in black and white, nearly 46 years after the first colour transmissions.
The cost of a black and white licence is £49, while a colour licence costs £145.50.
John Trenouth, a television and radio technology historian, said: “The numbers of black and white TV sets in regular use has fallen dramatically over the last few years, hastened by the fact that it's now almost impossible to replace them and by the need to buy a suitable set top box to continue to use them after digital switchover.”
