MARIE Curie Cancer Care is appealing for Redditch and Bromsgrove people to donate two hours this March to hand out the charity’s iconic daffodil pin in return for donations.

The Great Daffodil Appeal is Marie Curie’s biggest fundraiser which encourages everyone to give a donation and wear a daffodil pin during March.

Money raised will help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to local people with a terminal illness in their own home.

Actress Keira Knightley voiced the charity’s radio campaign calling for people to volunteer. And she was joined by comedy and stage actor, Stephen Mangan, whose parents were cared for by Marie Curie Nurses.

He said: “Marie Curie Nurses looked after my mother at home after she was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. A double blow followed when my father also died from a brain tumour; fortunately we were also able to care for him at home with Marie Curie Nurses at his side.

“Having a Marie Curie Nurse there to look after them meant that we could be the family we are without having to worry about anything. I’m proud to be supporting the appeal and urging people to sign up to collect for the charity this March.”

Richard Scott, Worcestershire community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We need over 50 people from Redditch and Bromsgrove to help us collect this March so it’s great to have support from celebrities like Keira Knightley and Stephen Mangan. Collecting is such a great experience and I hope everyone will help us make this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal a success.”
