REDDITCH people are being asked to show their support for a Redditch girl and help her get to the 2013 BMX World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.

Libby Smith, aged 11, from Greenlands, has only been riding for two years at the Redditch BMX track. In that time she has become Midlands Champion twice, ranking number one in the region and 15th in the world.

She has already qualified for the 2013 World Championships and is now fundraising to try and raise the money to get there.

Through saving pocket and birthday money, Libby has collected £600 so far towards the £6,000 she will need.

She has the support of Redditch parliamentary spokesperson Rebecca Blake, who now has a picture of Libby and details of her fundraising challenge on her first community Christmas card.

Coun Blake said: “When I met Libby this year at the Olympic Big Screen event at Redditch BMX track, I knew I wanted to help her fundraise to achieve her dream of getting to the World Championships in New Zealand in 2013.

“This is my first community Christmas card, which will be sent throughout the town. By promoting Libby's successes and determination I hope people will contact Libby with any donations they might like to make or fundraising ideas.

“Together, let's enable Libby to represent Great Britain and Redditch in the World Championships next year. In the year that Great Britain hosted the Olympics, there is no better time to get as many young people as possible involved in sport and to help them fulfill their potential.”

People can donate as little or as much as they wish to help make Libby’s dreams comes true.

PayPal donations, and fund-raising suggestions, can be made through scott.smith.ktm690@hotmail.co.uk or see www.facebook.com/libbysmithracing.
