A CONSORTIUM of carers and personal assistants for disabled people is being set up in Redditch and Bromsgrove.

The aim of the ambitious group is to help avoid any problems when carers are ill or are forced to cancel planned appointments.

Lorraine Deakin, organiser behind the idea, said: “I know from experience that when carers are off ill, people find it extremely hard to get any emergency cover, or additional care, and this causes no end of problems.

“So it is our aim to put an end to these problems and the stress that it causes.”

Ms Deakin is appealing for any disabled people as well as carers and assistants to get in touch if they would like to join.

She Added: “We will compile a list of members to our group in order to help each other.

“This will not just help many disabled people in the same situation, but also give assistants and carers the opportunity to have some extra work, for a different employer.”

For anyone interested in joining the consortium there will be a stall at a carers’ rights event at Redditch Town Hall on December 7.

Run by the Worcestershire Association of Carers, the event will also feature a range of organisations giving help and advise on benefits, support for carers, and group talks.
