SEVERAL roads in the area had to be closed as flood water made driving harardous last week.

On Thursday, Holloway Lane in Redditch, Icknield Street, at the junction of Primrose Hill in Alvechurch, and Fox Hill, also in Alvechurch, were closed.

In Studley, the high school was also closed on Thursday and Friday due to flooding.

One area hit particularly badly was the Astwood Lane area of Feckenham.

After hours of heavy rain, and with the storm drains at bursting point, the water flooded the road, leaving locals to build their own defences to protect their homes from flood damage.

Residents rallied together to help unblock drains for many hours just to try and keep the water flowing away from their homes, and a local farmer brought much-needed sandbags.

Also badly hit was Batchley Road and Oaktree Avenue in Redditch which had several inches of water. One resident who lives on Batchley Road said it was the worst she had ever seen it.

On Sunday, Battens Drive was closed because of flooding between the Arrow Valley Countryside Centre and the Coventry Highway.

One resident,Tony Banks said the situation in Battens Drive did not seem half as severe as that in Holloway Drive, Redditch, which for some reason was still open, despite being virtually impassable.

Warwickshire Firefighters received a call to a person marroned in his car in flood water in Oak Tree lane, Sambourne, Service control received the call at 2.58am on Sunday and mobilised a crew from Alcester.

The original call was received by Hereford & Worcester Fire service and mobilised the boat from Evesham.

One person was rescued suffering from hyperthermia, an ambulance arrived and attended to the casualty.
