Armed robbery at Redditch store
5:19pm Sunday 28th October 2012 in Local
A MAN armed with a knife and hammer stole money and cigarettes from a Redditch convenience store this morning.
The robbery happened at The Bank convenience store, Feckenham Road, Astwood Bank, at 7.15am.
The offender, described as white, in his late teens to early 20s, of slim build and just under 6ft in height, was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black jacket and a black flat cap, and had his face covered with a cloth-like material.
He threatened a member of staff with the hammer and knife and demanded he hand over the money and cigarettes. He then left the store in the direction of Evesham Road carrying a red sports bag with black draw strings.
Det Insp Reay, who is in charge of the investigation, said: "Although this is an isolated incident, it has clearly been frightening for the member of staff."
Police are now appealing for witnesses, especially a customer who was in the store just before the robbery occurred.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Redditch CID by calling 101. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
