Redditch parents get a free lesson on how to apply for child's school place online

WORCESTERSHIRE County Council, together with St George's School and Redditch Library, are inviting parents and carers in Redditch to a free event at Redditch Library on Monday, November 5 from 10am-2pm.
The event has been organised to help parents apply for their child's school place online for children starting school in September 2013. Staff will be on hand to guide parents through the application process including help with creating and using email addresses.
Before attending parents will need to have decided which schools they wish to apply for. A list of schools and information on applying for school can be found at worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
Caroline Redfern, St George’s headteacher, said: “We know how stressful it can be when applying for your child's school place. We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with Redditch Library and the county council to offer our families the opportunity to have this support with applying for reception and middle school places.
“This event will provide help and support to ensure the process is completed successfully.”
Those unable to attend can still apply at worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
This year the county council is asking for all applications to be made via the on-line poral.
Over the last few years, the council has experienced a significant increase in the number of parents taking up the opportunity to apply online and benefit from the quick, easy and environmentally-friendly way of submitting their application.
The online process is not only speedier, but also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means parents can make choices at their leisure
Applicants receive an email acknowledgement that their application has been received and on offer day.The offer is sent electronically.
For high schools, parents have until October 31, 2012 to submit an application. For primary, middle and first schools, parents have until January 15 to submit an application.
