Worcestershire's Youth Cabinet are looking for top jobs for children and young people to take over on Children's Commissioner's Takeover Day.

This year's event, on Friday 23 November, will see children and young people in Worcestershire getting involved with as many organisations as possible for the day. Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2012 is a national event which gives children and young people the chance to shadow jobs, get involved in decision-making and offer their opinions on key issues.

Worcestershire's Youth Cabinet, co-ordinating the event with support from Worcestershire County Council, have already secured opportunities at Community First, West Mercia Women's Aid, the County Council and one will even be working alongside the Bishop of Worcester!

Tayla, aged 19, who will be part of the Takeover event, said: "I was involved in Takeover Day last year and I loved it. It's an amazing opportunity and I would encourage all young people to be involved, especially this year as its bigger and better than before."

Trish Haines, Chief Executive at the County Council, said: "Takeover day is a fantastic opportunity for organisations to involve children and young people in their work and gain a fresh perspective on what they do. We hope that takeover day in Worcestershire this year will be bigger and better than ever before, breaking down the barriers between generations and encouraging children and young people to be actively involved in their communities."

The Bishop of Worcester, Dr. John Inge, who has signed up to Takeover Day this year said: “Children’s takeover day is not a new idea for the Church: there has been a tradition of having a ‘boy bishop’ for the day since medieval times and I’m looking forward very much to working with a young person for the day this year. Learning about his or her perspective will be very good for me and I am sure that the experience will be a helpful and enjoyable one for both of us.”

This year the Children’s Commissioner for England hopes 50,000 children and young people around the country will be part of Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day. Numerous organisations have already signed up.
