Visitors to the popular Wychavon Way will this summer find a very special and beautiful additional treat to rest their weary feet.

Worcestershire County Council has installed eight beautifully crafted rustic oak benches at various intervals along the 40 mile route.

The project which was funded by the Severn Waste Environmental Fund, provides a welcome addition for walkers following the beautiful route through the Worcestershire Countryside, offering the chance to rest or enjoy their lunch whilst admiring the beautiful scenery.

Gordon Yarranton, Chairman of Worcestershire County Council said: "The benches were produced by a Worcestershire business, using locally sourced oak.  We are really grateful to Severn Waste Environmental Fund for funding these welcome additions to a fantastic walk."

Bill Richardson, Fund Manager of Pershore- based Severn Waste Environmental Fund, said: "We were delighted to be able to fund the provision of these new benches through the Landfill Communities Fund and hope that walkers will enjoy using them for many years to come".

Councillor Gerry O'Donnell, Chairman of Wychavon District Council said: "The Wychavon Way is a lovely walk through stunning countryside and these new benches will provide walkers with a welcome rest and a chance to enjoy all that Wychavon has to offer".

The Wychavon Way was developed as a partnership between Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council, starting in Droitwich Spa and finishing in Broadway, taking in Pershore and Bredon Hill through a variety of landscapes with some stunning views over the famous Vale of Evesham and beyond.

The fully-way marked route can be broken up into shorter sections or, for the more adventurous, completed as a longer walk over a number of days.
