Children and young people up to the age of 19 in full time education within the county are being encouraged to enter the potentially life changing competition.

The Beacon Camera Club, a registered charity based in Malvern, is once again playing host to the popular competition which it operates in association with the Worcestershire County Council Children’s Services Directorate.

The winning photographers will receive a photographic training day, a mounted print of their winning image, and other photographic items.

There is no theme and images can be on any subject they choose and taken on any camera which produces digital images.

Trevor Bell, from Beacon Camera Club said: "Everyone has a photograph that they take and think 'wow that’s really good, or arty or just takes your breath away' this competition aims to help children and young people across the county to share and celebrate their achievement of their perfect picture".

"With the fantastic summer months upon us, it’s a great time to get outside and get snapping. I'd encourage anyone to give it a go!"

Entries are being taken from Sunday 1 September 2013 and Friday 31 January 2014, allowing plenty of time to achieve that 'dream' picture. Entrants can submit up to three pictures which will need to be made online via the Beacon Camera Clubs web site (www.beaconcameraclub.co.uk), avoiding the need for entrants to incur the costs of printing and mounting their work.

An experienced judging panel of Beacon Camera Club members, many holding distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society will select the 50 finalists from three age group categories of Primary, Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary. All finalists images will be displayed at an Awards Night held next year.

All 50 finalists' images will also be published in the “Worcestershire Young Photographer of the Year 2014 Year Book”.

Gail Quinton, Worcestershire County Council's Director of Children's Services, said: "This will be a brilliant opportunity for young people to develop skills, discover a talent or pursue something that they are passionate about. I am excited to see what our young artists will showcase on this occasion as the standard has been increasing every year in the competition and I believe it can only get better. I wholeheartedly support the competition as it gives young people a chance to express their views, personality and opinions through Art and encourages them to gain new experiences. We are looking forward to receiving this year's entrants and seeing what our young photographers can do."

Last year the competition attracted well over 500 entries and the Club hope for many more this year. Last year’s winning entries and further information can be found on the Club’s website www.beaconcameraclub.co.uk.

Beacon Camera Club are keen to attend school assemblies to explain the competition, provide examples of previous winners and inspire and encourage entries from pupils.  Any schools interested should email press@beaconcameraclub.co.uk
