Born in South Wales, I have lived in the Midlands for twenty eight years and in Worcestershire for the last fifteen years; apart from a brief two year sojourn in South Africa.

Following many years in IT marketing and sales I set up Eco2Solar in 2006, specialising in the installation of solar energy for homes and businesses. We take on all sizes of projects; from an individual home up to large health centres and care homes. Please visit www.eco2solar.co.uk if you would like to know more.

I am passionate about the environment but I'm also a married father of three and my pleasures include great food and beer, walking in the Worcestershire hills and travelling (when I get the chance).

Optimising your electricity supply

There are a number of technologies available to cut energy demand and reduce your bills. The first that I would like to talk about is one that optimises and harmonises your electricity supply. It is relatively straightforward and very robust technology with few moving parts. It is called Voltage Optimisation. Voltage Optimisation can cut your energy use by up to 20%, reduce carbon emissions by up to 15%, your maximum demand by up to 10% and prolongs the life and reliability of all equipment in your premises that runs on electricity.*

How important is energy efficiency for business?

Recent reports have shown that companies see rising energy costs as a key concern. A survey carried out by Green Monday, quoted on the Nat West website, in association with the Aldersgate Group, sought the opinions of energy experts at many of the UK’s biggest companies. Some 62 per cent said they felt UK energy costs would exceed those of similar economies elsewhere in the world, while just 5 per cent said they thought they would be lower. “The corporate survey demonstrates that it is the price of fossil fuels, not green policies that will have the biggest impact on rising bills,” he said. “These findings are consistent with Government analysis which finds that recent energy bill increases are primarily due to increased wholesale gas costs.” He added that the cheapest way to address the problem would be to reduce demand, with more focus put on creating incentives to persuade businesses to use less energy rather than investing in expensive new supply.

How solar energy has evolved

Solar energy is a remarkable yet simple concept. Thanks to solar panels, you can use sunlight to create electricity for your home or business. The technology behind this has evolved dramatically in the past few decades, but you might be surprised to know the history of solar power goes back thousands of years.
