Swapping wings for wheels in Bidford

A BIDFORD glider has swapped his wings for wheels and taken to the roads of Britain to raise money for charity.

Adam Huttlestone, a member of Bidford Gliding Club, has completed a gruelling journey on his bike from John O’Groats to Lands End to raise money for the Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust.

Adam said: “After attending school with Tracy Sollis and being very familiar with the trust and the vital work it undertakes to fund research and prevent pain and suffering for those affected by Leukaemia, I decided to do something to help.”

Adam, 28, stepped out of his comfort zone to complete the challenge, which spanned more than 1,000 miles.

Gordon Burkert, managing director of the club said: “I would like to congratulate Adam on this huge achievement on behalf of everyone here at the club. I think he’ll welcome the comfort of the glider seat in exchange for the saddle on his bike, and who can blame him.”

Adam added: “The journey was most certainly a challenge, but I would do it all again tomorrow to help such a worthwhile and deserving charity.”

The Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust aims to help relieve the sickness, suffering and distress of those afflicted with the disease, and was launched in memory of Tracy, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at only 15, and lost her battle with the disease in 1995.

For Adam though, the next fundraising challenge is already in the pipeline, as he is now planning.a ‘Loop the Loop’ campaign at the club for later in the year.
