Tennis club open for service

ANY residents inspired to pick up a racket after watching endless games of tennis in this year’s Wimbledon are in luck.

Alcester Tennis Club's new four court mini-tennis centre has been officially opened and is the only tennis club in Warwickshire to boast a dedicated centre for young children.

The official opening was led by the mayor of Alcester, Mike Gittus, and members of the club.

Peter Bostock, chairman, said: “Alcester Tennis Club caters for players of all abilities and ages, both at adult and junior level.

“There are four full size all weather tennis courts, four mini-tennis courts for the under nines, floodlighting for the darker nights, and a newly refurbished clubhouse all set in pleasant surroundings right in the heart of Alcester.

“There is an excellent coaching programme with three full time coaches on hand, especially for juniors with daily group coaching six days per week and in the school holidays.”

For anyone who thinks they’re the next Andy Murray the club has a Wimbledon special, offering three free adult tennis coaching sessions to prospective members throughout July.

The aim is to provide potential new members with a chance to experience the club and its facilities.

Mr Bostock added: “Alcester is one of the only clubs in the area to have such an extensive programme to help people develop and improve their tennis.

“We’re especially committed to the youth of the community with our mini-tennis centre for young children who can receive free membership.”
