ALCESTER residents are being asked to place their vote if they think any of their local councillors are worthy of a new award.

The Fred Parrot Shield is being awarded by Stratford District Council.

In its third year, the award was named after a former chairman of both the district council and Warwickshire County Council.

Councillor Stuart Beese, chairman of Stratford District Council, said: "Fred Parrott was one of Stratford council's oldest serving elected members but tragically died suddenly in 2002, following a stroke.

"He had been a councillor for 50 years and he demonstrated outstanding commitment to the public interest, so I am very pleased to launch this year's Fred Parrott Shield to recognise other councillors, past or present."

Names can be put forward by anyone, for a parish, town, district or county councillor, past or present, and nominations should include a short letter detailing why it is felt the councillor is worthy of the accolade.

Letters should be addressed to the Chairman of Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 6HX and theclosing date is April 11 - so nominations need to be in soon.

The award itself will be decided by a committee made up of five councillors, and the shield will be presented at the annual meeting of the district council on May 21.
