AN Alcester great-grandmother enjoyed a surprise party, surrounded by family, in celebration of her 100th birthday

Centenarian Lilian 'Lily' Ingham, of Seymour Road, marked the occasion at the Kings Court Hotel with her two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on Thursday, October 13.

She was born in Swanton Morley in Norfolk on Friday, October 13, 1916. She lived in the village until the age of 25, when she married her husband Jack and moved to Leiston in Suffolk where she resided for the following 50 years.

In 1992, she moved to the Isle of Anglesey to live near her son Victor and then in 2014 she moved to Alcester to live with and be cared for her by her daughter Joyce.

Lily says that the recipe for a long life is hard work, eating lots of chocolate and also a drop of brandy at bedtime.

One of her great-grandchildren is expecting a baby girl and she will be named Lily in her honour.
