A PASSIONATE group of students from Alcester Grammar School spent three weeks building a greenhouse at a school in Tanzania.

The team of 31 students and four teachers visited Magara School, near Arusha, where they also made a drip irrigation system, which saves water and fertilizer by allowing the liquid to drip slowly to the plant roots, and 50 desks and chairs.

They also went on safari and climbed the fifth highest peak in Africa, Mount Meru.

The journey had a delayed start, courtesy of a coup in Turkey which disrupted flights, this meant a change to the original itinerary.

A school spokesman said: "The students, and teachers, had a wonderful trip, the highlight for many being the time spent in the school attending lessons and teachers having to teach the Tanzanian students maths.

"For others it was the unforgettable sight of lions defending their kill or simply the views of the sun rising of Mount Kilimanjaro."
