STAFF and students of St Benedict’s Sixth Form were overjoyed on Wednesday, July 6 as results of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma were published across the world.

Envelopes were opened to reveal a record breaking year for the school in Alcester.

IB students achieved an average points score of 33 - comfortably exceeding the global average of 30 (33 points carries more UCAS points than A*A*A* at A Level).

In addition, the percentage passing their IB Diploma was 95 per cent - the highest achieved by the sixth form since it opened in 2011.

Top performers include Jacob Buckley with 41 points, closely followed by Sophie Rankin attaining 40 points.

Such scores put them among the top 5 per cent of IB students internationally.

Headteacher Nick Gibson, said "We are delighted with our best ever set of sixth form results. They are a superb achievement for both students and staff and prove that our students really are among the best in the world with many of them now in a position to go onto their chosen University.

"We have found that top Universities are going out of their way to recruit IB students as they value the breadth, critical thinking and international dimension."

The news comes hot on the heels of recently published BTEC results.

Health and Social Care Diplomas are the school’s best on record with 71 per cent of students achieving D*D* (equivalent to two A*s at A Level).
