PEOPLE in Alcester are getting into the athletic spirit with the town set to hold its second Olympics Fun Day at the weekend.

With just over a month until the Rio Games, the community will celebrating and sharing in the excitement of the Olympics with free music, entertainment and sporting events in Jubilee Recreation Ground.

There will be a funfair, food and a bar aiming to providing, according to organisers a ‘Rio Party in the Park’ feeling as well as photography and art competitions.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new £80,000 state-of-the-art skate park will take place at 1.30pm in Jubilee Fields.

Families are being invited to bring a picnic and enjoy day out along the riverside.

Event organiser Alcester Town Councillor Mike Gittus said: "It is our intention to continue to build strong relationships between our youth through sporting challenges and events in the Olympic Year. We had a similar event in 2012 where we promoted sports, community and culture -We had a great day. We aim to repeat the event."

The free to enter fun day is being held on Saturday, June 9 between noon and 10pm.
