HE may not be old enough to drive a car yet but 16-year-old Jordan Bingham was flying a plane 1,200 feet in the air on Sunday, June 26.

The Alcester Academy pupil, who has delivered the Advertiser newspaper for three years, is believed to be one of the UK’s youngest pilots.

He turned 16 on Wednesday, June 22 – making him legally able to fly a plane on his own at Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield that weekend.

Jordan began learning to fly in January but he has always had an interest in planes and aims to become a pilot in the Royal Air Force.

Speaking on his first solo flight, Jordan who attends a gymnastic club and is a keen mountain biker, said: "It was brilliant. It will be fantastic to do it again."

His sister Leah said: "I was so proud of him. I was nearly crying- it made me nervous watching him fly and it was weird knowing he was on his own up there.

"His instructor is really friendly and said Jordan was very confident before he went up.

"He enjoyed every minute and can't wait to do it again.

"Jordan was told to go around once and then land if it was safe to do so, but he decided he was too close to another plane and he went around again.

"It was the right to do and earned him some brownie points," she added.
