"DISGUSTED" families have hit out at yobs who smashed ornaments on graves at an Alcester cemetery.

A number of solar lights and other trinkets were damaged overnight between Monday, June 27 and Tuesday, June 28.

The relatives of those buried in the Birmingham Road cemetery took to social media to voice their anger and concern.

Sophie Williams said: "What vile little cretins that walk this earth."

Amy Louise Richford said: "It's so disgusting."

Johanne Read said: "I will have to pop down and check our family graves - nothing is sacred anymore."

Céline Brookes added: "Oh no, I was only there taking flowers to my Grandad's grave yesterday. Who could even think of doing this?"

Posting on the Alcester Town Council Facebook page, a spokesman said the council were made aware of the incident.

They added: "During this incident a number of items were removed from graves and some damaged.

“Some of the badly damaged items have had to be disposed of by Alcester Town Council groundsmen and details have been reported to the office staff."

Warwickshire Police visited the cemetery on Tuesday, June 28 following reports of criminal damage. 

A spokesman said: "Several items were removed from graves and damaged.

"Investigations are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information."
