AN Alcester High School has been praised by the Department of Education.
Schools minster Nick Gibb MP wrote to Alcester Academy, in St Faith's Road, to congratulate their "very high standard of achievement in the GCSE exams in 2015".

In the letter, Mr Gibb said: "The percentage of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at grades A-*C including English and mathematics, shows that your school is one of the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in England.

"Ensuring your pupils are achieving at least this benchmark standard of attainment at Key Stage 4 provides a strong basis for their further education and employment.

"Thank you for your work in this important area of a young person's education and congratulations again to you and your staff for your hard and professionalism."

Headteacher Paul Hyde said: "Having been judged as 'requiring improvement' by Ofsted just two years ago, you can imagine how we feel to be in the top 100 non-selective schools in the country.

"Our motto of ‘to be the best that we can be’ has truly been realised as a result of hard work and dedication on the part of every single member of staff.

"I am privileged to have such a committed and professional team of teachers who go above and beyond for the students. We hope that we can even further build on this success."
