GREEN-fingered Alcester residents are being urged to take part in this summer’s garden walkabout.

The event, which is now in its 26th year, sees at least 25 beautiful gardens around Alcester open to the public and usually raises several thousand pounds in aid of Cancer Research UK.

There will also be an array of plants for sale, as well as teas, refreshments and ice-creams.

The walkabout is running from noon to 5pm on Sunday, June 26, and tickets are £5 from Church Street in Alcester on the day.

Secretary of Alcester Friends of Cancer Research UK Sue Blackburn said: "It has proved so popular with local gardeners that we had three new gardens last year and three new gardens this year."

Over the years the event has raised more than £50,000 for the charity and this year organisers hope to reach £55,000.

No dogs are allowed in the gardens.
