VILLAGERS in Wootton Wawen are set to stage a festival in honour of the Queen’s official 90th birthday next month.
The Wootton Wawen Festival, which is being held from June 11 to June 18, inside St Peter’s Church, will see a vast array a musical performances.
A church service will take place on the morning of Sunday, June 12 followed by a programme of organ favourites, afternoon tea and exhibitions reflecting the Queen’s nine decades.
Alcester-based choir Tarantara, led by conductor Jonathan Hill, are set to perform on Saturday, June 11.
On Thursday June 16 people be able to take part in wine-sampling with a commentary by critic Oz Clarke and music by the internationally celebrated Armonico Consort, exploring the alcohol-related deaths of some 18th century composers.
On Saturday, June 18 modern jazz classics will be performed by graduating students from Birmingham Conservatoire.
All three events will start at 7.30pm.
Reverend Andy Larkin said: "It’s remarkable that a village population of only 1,400 should stage so enterprising a musical event with the aim of attracting audiences from a wide area."
Profits from the festival will be used by the Wagen Trust charity for the benefit of St Peter’s.
