ALCESTER showed its national pride at the weekend as hundreds turn out for a St George's Day parade.

More than 500 youngsters from the West Warwickshire Scout District marched through the town, alongside their leaders, led by traditional highland bagpipe group The Shirley Pipe Band.

The parade started out at The Guide and Scout Centre in Moorfields Road before marching to a service of celebration led by rector of Alcester Minster Reverend Adrian Guthrie at St Nicholas' Church.

Alcester Town Mayor Clive Neal-Sturgess and members of Alcester Court Leet were also in attendance.

Posting on Facebook, a spokesman from West Warwickshire Scout District said: "Scouts in West Warwickshire Scout District made themselves proud today (Sunday, April 24) by parading through Alcester to celebrate St George's Day.

"Everyone renewed their scout promise and those who had achieved awards throughout the year were recognised during a service St Nicholas Church.

"Thanks to the wonderful Shirley Pipe Band who led the Parade."

After the service, the parade returned to Alcester Guide and Scout Centre for tea and cakes.

The event was held on Sunday, April 24.
