TEACHERS at Alcester Academy are celebrating after being shortlisted for two prestigious TES Awards.

Staff at the Gerard Road school have been nominated for the 'Maths Team of the Year' prize and teacher James Yarrington, who has worked at the academy for 16 years, has been shortlisted as 'Arts and Drama Teacher of the Year'.

The awards recognise the outstanding contribution to education made by teams and individuals at schools.

The school, which was recently rated as 'good' with two areas judged as 'outstanding' when it was last inspected by Ofsted six months ago, is one of just eight nominations shortlisted in each category.

Headteacher Paul Hyde said: "All at the academy are thrilled at being shortlisted in two categories. This coming after achieving a staggering 80 per cent five A*-C in 2015’s examinations; the best results the academy has ever achieved.

"I am absolutely delighted that teachers at the academy have been shortlisted for two different TES Awards. I am very lucky to have such highly skilled and motivated teachers who build such excellent relationships with students and parents. It is a testimony to the excellent teaching which takes place every day."

The winners will be announced on Friday, June 24 at Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.
